SAP BEx Analyzer and BEx Precalculation leave mainstream maintenance
BEx Analyzer and BEx Precalculation leave SAP mainstream maintenance and enter customer-specific maintenance from October 15, 2025, with new unknown bugs possibly chargeable.
Who’s affected
SAP BW teams still running BEx Analyzer, BEx Workbooks or BEx Precalculation (including broadcasting of BEx workbooks) for Excel-based reporting. Mainstream maintenance ended 2025-10-15, so these tools are now in customer-specific maintenance.
Not affected: Teams that already moved reporting off the Excel-dependent BEx tools (for example to SAP Analytics Cloud, Analysis for Office or another BI tool) and run no BEx workbooks or precalculation jobs.
What it costs
No list price change in the record. The risk is that new bugs not yet known to SAP may be chargeable to you, and SAP may offer fixes only at its discretion, so unplanned support spend and workaround effort are the drivers.
When to act
The date has already passed, and moving off Excel-based BEx workbooks and broadcasting usually takes several months of inventory, rebuild and user retraining, so start now.
Blast radius: Excel workbooks built on BEx Analyzer, scheduled precalculation jobs, and broadcast distribution of BEx workbooks to email or shared locations; any downstream users or processes relying on those outputs.
What should you do? decision tree
- you do not know which BEx workbooks and precalculation or broadcast jobs are still in useInventory them now using usage statistics, and rank by business criticality and number of users.
- workbooks are rarely used or duplicate other reportsRetire them and tell users where the replacement report lives.
- workbooks are business-critical and you have a SAP BI or BDC roadmapPlan a rebuild in the successor SAP tools and schedule it in order of criticality.
- you are consolidating off SAP BW or want a non-SAP stackEvaluate moving the data to Snowflake or Databricks and rebuilding the reports in your BI tool.
- you cannot migrate in the near termFreeze changes to BEx workbooks, document the known workarounds and confirm with SAP what customer-specific maintenance would cost you.
Options
- WaitKeep running BEx as-is and freeze changes; accept the risk of chargeable fixes for new, unknown bugs until you migrate.
- OptimizeCut the BEx estate: retire unused workbooks and precalculation or broadcast jobs so less is exposed to unsupported behavior.
- Re-architectRebuild critical workbooks in a supported SAP front end and move broadcasting to scheduled distribution there.
- MigrateMove BW data to a cloud warehouse or lakehouse and rebuild reporting in your main BI tool, ending the BEx dependency.
