About VizCanary
VizCanary is a free tracker of pricing, licensing, SKU-retirement, end-of-support and M&A changes across 64 data and BI tools. The goal: nobody should learn about a 40% price increase from their renewal quote.
How a change gets on the site
- we watch the sourcesEvery night we check vendor pricing pages, changelogs, release notes, lifecycle policies and RSS/GitHub feeds, plus endoflife.date for support dates, and diff them against the last snapshot.
- something changedA fast AI model pulls out the structured facts (product, change type, dates, old and new prices) and a verbatim quote. Code then checks that the quote really appears on the source page word for word.
- it looks realA second, stronger model fact-checks the record against the source. Code applies strict rules (prices must appear in the source, dates must match the quote, no duplicates), and an editor reviews what’s left.
- it’s publishedWe add guidance: who’s affected, what it costs, when to act, a decision tree and alternatives. It’s written from the verified facts only, and any number not in the record gets flagged.
Ground rules
- Every change has a source and a verbatim quote. No invented numbers. Where the vendor doesn’t publish a price, our calculators ask for yours.
- List prices only. What you actually pay depends on your contract.
- Editorial firewall. Sponsor slots are labeled and never change facts, dates, severity or ordering. Alternatives are never for sale.
- Not advice. The guidance is a starting point for your own legal and procurement review.
